Frequently Asked Questions!
Is group training worth my time?
Group training benefits you and your dog in many ways. Your dog will
obtain socialization, so it gets use to being around other dogs and
persons. This is especially important if you live around children. Group
training gives you an excuse to continue working with you dog to
keep it's obedience level up. In addition, you can get training tips
from other owners, who had to deal with different behavior problems from
different breeds. Their experience can always be applied to your pet.
I'm looking for a dog trainer. What do I look for?
This one is easy. Look for us! But if you don't live near Denver Colorado, here
are some pointers.
Find out how long they've been training dogs, and how they got into the business.
Someone who learned attack dog training in
the military or for the police might not be someone you'd want to train
your beagle, but might be who you'd want to train your German shepherd.
Look for a sanitary and well kept office/kennel. Don't be overly
impressed by videos of dogs they've trained - especially if the trainer is not in
it. Anyone can buy or carefully edit a video. Ask them questions and see
if they sound knowledgeable. Ask about their training methods, as not
all methods work for all dogs. Finally, make sure you like the trainer. Dog
training is also about "owner training". If the owner does not learn from the
trainer, the dog never will, either.
Can you teach an old dog new tricks?
Absolutely! In fact, your dog may want to learn new tricks. Sometimes,
a dog can develop bad behaviors out of frustration or boredom.
Continued training and work on new "tricks," even if it's just "fetch," may
eliminate certain bad behaviors, and will make your dog that much more enjoyable.
Your dog is never to old to learn, and will appreciate your attention.
